  • Graduation requirement: 2 years + passing Fitnessgram
The Physical Education Department's goal is to help ALL students master the necessary movement skills to participate confidently in many forms of physical activity and to understand their relationship to health and wellbeing. Our philosophy is "EVERYONE CAN." We ensure that all students, regardless of athletic ability, will have a variety of opportunities to enrich their lives through physical activity and FUN!
 
We develop physically literate individuals, defined by the National Standards for Physical Education as persons who:
  • Have learned the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities
  • Know the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of physical activities
  • Participate regularly in physical activity
  • Are physically fit
  • Value physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle

9th Grade
All 9th grade students must be enrolled in one of the above physical education classes, during which they are to take and pass requirements of the Fitnessgram.
 
10th Grade
All students who do not pass the Fitnessgram in 9th grade must be enrolled in the 10th grade in one of the above physical education classes, during which they are to retake and pass any assessment areas not passed in the 9th grade.
 
11th and 12th Grade
Students must be enrolled in a physical education elective until all Fitnessgram requirements are fulfilled
 
Physical Education Course Description:
Through cooperative, skills-based, aquatic, and fitness activities as well as team sports (basketball, badminton, flag football, volleyball, hockey), students are challenged to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities
  • Achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity
